Program of our Ottawa Centennial Chapter No. 120 , autumn 2018 to summer 2019

Unless otherwise stated, all meetings take place at the Sandy Hill Community Center, 250 Somerset East, Ottawa (12:00 p.m.). The centre is located at the corner of Sweetland Avenue, just east of King Edward Avenue, on the route 16 OC Transpo bus route. Limited parking is available, on a first-come basis. All meetings will be held at Sandy Hill Community Centre, 1st floor meeting room next to reception desk, across from the main hall.

Note: Owing to other events, there will be no meeting on September 26 at Sandy Hill.

Wednesday, Nov. 28, 11 am - 1:30 pm : HOLIDAY MARKET - SANDY HILL COMMUNITY CENTRE GRAND HALL, 250 SOMERSET STREET EAST - Free admission - For sale : Ikebana vases, kenzans, scissors, rolls of mesh fabric for gift wrapping, plants and bake goods.

January 30 -- Keiko Nagasawa will give a workshop on Calligraphy (Shodo), a part of traditional Japanese culture. (Participants’ fee of $5 for materials).

February 27 -- Masayo Gardner will give a workshop on Japanese fabric wrapping (Furoshiki).

March 27 --- Naoko Yoshida-Moenck will give a workshop on the “Art of Paper”.

April 10 – 14, 2019. Annual Exhibition “Creating Art with Nature” - “La nature à travers l'art” at the Canadian Museum of Nature. Opening ceremony at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 10. Entry to Exhibition included in Museum admission. Hands-on Ikebana workshops will be offered to the general public, Saturday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Workshop fee: $15 + museum admission. Workshop registration at nature.ca. May 29, 10 am – 12 pm -- Chapter’s Annual General Meeting, followed by (bento box) lunch (12 - 14 pm). Bento boxes will be ordered for lunch. The cost is $20. If you wish to order a bento box lunch please confirm with Jane Metcalfe janemetcalfe9@gmail.com by Friday, May 24th.

Oct 13 at 10:00 AM to 4 PM – Oct 14 at 10 AM to 3:00 PM: The Ottawa Chapter of the Ohara School of Ikebana presents an exhibition of Japanese floral arrangement at the Embassy oif Japan, 255 Sussex Drive, Ottawa - "Discover Ikebana".

May 12-16, 2019: 10th North American Sogetsu Seminar, Honolulu, Hawaii. Workshops and Demonstration by Iemoto Akane Teshigahara.

Aug. 23 to Sept. 8, 2019: Mitsugi Kikuchi - 50th Anniversary Art Exhibition. Opening hours: Weekdays 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m,  weekends 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. - at the Auditorium of the Information and Culture Centre, Embassy of Japan, 255 Sussex Drive, Ottawa (please use the entrance located on Boteler St.)

Sept. 14 & 15, 2019 : Ottawa Bonsai Society - Fall Exhibition, at the Information and Culture Centre of the Embassy of Japan (255 Sussex Drive, Ottawa).
