Annual I.I. exhibition at the Canadian Museum of Nature

Program of our Ottawa Centennial Chapter No. 120 , autumn 2016 to summer 2017

Unless otherwise stated, all meetings take place at the Sandy Hill Community Center, 250 Somerset East, Ottawa (11:30 AM). The centre is located at the corner of Sweetland Avenue, just east of King Edward Avenue, on the route 16 OC Transpo bus route. Limited parking is available, on a first-come basis. Chapter meetings commence at 11:30 AM - Refreshments served at 12 noon - Demonstrations begin at 12:30 PM.

September 28, 2016 : Demonstration of landscape arrangement by Helen Westington, Second Term Master, Ohara School of Ikebana.

October 26, 2016 : Demonstration of Kintsugi by Rebecca Cragg (Kintsugi is the art of repairing ceramics with gold or silver joining the pieces “and understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken”)

November 30, 2016 : Annual II Bazaar. Entry for non-members 5$.

December 2016 : Season’s Greetings - No meeting

January 25, 2017 : A workshop will be held at 12:30 p.m. Theme is Fukubukuro or "mystery bag" inspired from a Japanese New Year custom in which merchants make grab bags filled with unknown random contents. Each participant will receive a mystery bag, contents of which will be used for their flower arrangement. Cost for fresh plant materials is $5 for members; $15 for non-members. - N.B. The meeting for members, exceptionnally, will begin at 10:15.

February 22, 2017 : An invitation to collaborate to Populace, a community project headed by Potters Guild of Ottawa, in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary - http://www.populace2017.com/about.html

A workshop led by Kirstin Davidson, Populace project coordinator, will be held for I.I. Ottawa Chapter members on February 22, 12:30 pm – 14:00 pm., Sandy Hill Community Centre, 250 Somerset E.

Participants will be asked to create flowers for the making of a significant outdoor public ceramic art installation – a sculpture of some 9000 flowers to be located at the Canadian Museum of Nature, 17 June 2017- 4 September 2017. Roses, fleur de lys and feather are the 3 sculptural narratives in Populace 2017. All materials to make the clay roses (easiest to create) are provided by the Guild. No experience required. Workshop is free for members; $10 for non-members.

May 31, 2017 : Planning meeting for members only, 10 am – 2 pm, at Sandy Hill Community Centre, Ottawa. Coffee and tea will be available. Please bring your lunch.

October, 2016: Visit to Ottawa by Master Instructor Koka Fukushima, Riji, Sogetsu Headquarters, Tokyo, Japan. Starting October 1st, more information to come.

October 15 and 16, 2016: Annual Sogetsu Exhibition, "Dialogues", at the Embassy of Japan, 255 Sussex Drive, Ottawa. Opening: October 15 from 10 AM to 4 PM and October 16 from 10 AM to 3 PM.

November 4 - 5, 2016: Japanese Film Festival: A Tale of Samurai Cookiong; The Apology King; River Building 2200. At Carleton University (Ottawa), doors open at 6:30 PM. More information at www.ca.emb-japan.go.jp

April 12 to 15, 2017: Ikebana International 11th World Convention, Okinawa Convention Center

May 27 and 28, 2017: Annual Sogetsu Exhibition, "Celebration", at the Embassy of Japan, 255 Sussex Drive, Ottawa.

October 21-22, 2017 : Ohara Exhibition at the Embassy of Japan, 255 Sussex Drive, Ottawa.
